Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy is the Deputy Chair and Professor of the Department of Management at the George Washington University School of Business. He is also the Executive Director for the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), the oldest and largest non-profit organization across the globe devoted to advancing small business research and practices.
Dr. El Tarabishy was recognized by the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of Argentina to the United Nations for creating a United Nations International Name Day dedicated to Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. June 27 from now on is the official United Nations International Name Day dedicated to Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME Day).
Dr. El Tarabishy managed through his novel idea to work closely with the Permanent Mission of Argentina to propose through a UN resolution a United Nations International Name Day dedicated to MSMEs. The United Nations General Assembly approved the resolution proposed by Permanent Mission of Argentina and by 54 countries representing 5.5 billion people as co-signers of the resolution.
Dr. El Tarabishy is an award-winning author and teacher, and in 2019 was awarded the George Washington University New Venture Competition Most Influential Faculty. Dr. El Tarabishy is the only faculty member in the GW School of Business that teaches in two nationally-ranked programs. He developed the first Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Creativity courses offered to MBA and undergraduate students throughout the GW University.
Dr. El Tarabishy created and managed the Global Entrepreneurship Research and Policy Conference (GWOctober.org) that is hosted at the George Washington University. The GW October conference connects the latest and most cutting edge of entrepreneurship research to the most pressing and important national and international policy to promote entrepreneurship and SMEs. The intersection of these two important topics makes the conference vital for global development.
Dr. El Tarabishy has the most downloaded article in 2015-2016 on the topic of Entrepreneurial Leadership from the Journal for Small Business Management. His recent work on a new topic of Humane Entrepreneurship has been quoted and used at the World Bank, OECD, ILO, and most the United Nations.
Dr. El Tarabishy previous work experience included the World Bank in the Corporate Strategy Group. He helped manage the Development Marketplace Program. The program’s mission is to support social entrepreneurs. The Development Marketplace competition has disbursed over US $115 million in awards to 650 winning proposals.
